This year, Vepica welcomed four interns from the Saltire Foundation (Saltire) to its Houston office. The young professionals were placed in a number of different roles ranging from business development and human resources to engineering and construction, to encourage them to develop their skillset.
Whilst working with Vepica, the Saltire interns were tasked to a wide variety of projects throughout the summer. Human resources intern, Wanda Fischera, developed an in-depth manual for the HR and accounting department to use in reference to employee expenses and reimbursements. Other projects included enhancing the use of Office 365 within the company and the creation of user manuals for the company's resource planning system.
The Saltire Foundation is a Scottish based charity helping students with high potential to become the next generation of business leaders. Since being founded in 2007, the charity has welcomed 895 “Saltire Scholars” to take part in their internship program.
At the end of each summer, the Saltire interns come together to organize the yearly Swing4Saltire Golf Tournament at the River Ridge Golf Club. The tournament is one of the last activities they host and gives them a chance to put their project management and event planning knowledge into practice - and what a great job they did!
More than 100 golfers took to the greens, including Vepica teams, to “Swing4Saltire” and their mission to fuel the next generation of business leaders. Despite the Texas heat, there were some fabulous drives, interesting putts and some peculiar “Happy Gilmore” attempts.
This year’s tournament was the largest fundraising activity in the history of the foundation, with donations totaling more than US$20,000. The event also gave the Saltire Scholars a chance to meet international business leaders who will be pivotal to their success.
Vepica was proud to be the main sponsor of such a great program and is thoroughly looking forward to next year. With help from Vepica and the other incredible sponsors, the Saltire Foundation will continue to fuel the business minds of tomorrow and give these students an experience they will never forget.
